Starter Guide Update Script

I've put together an update script to mirror the "Unofficial" Ubuntu Starter Guide. The script will automatically download & install any of the available listed programs/updates. A default package is set but additional packages can be included with ease.

Let me know if you'd like to use this script. It really does make the update/installation process a lot more user friendly & automated!

OpenOffice 2.0 beta

Today I wanted to do a write-up of one of the great products available with Ubuntu Linux. OpenOffice 2.0!

2.0 is currently in a 'beta' stage but I have been using it for quite some time and it seems to be completely stable so far. It is also very cleaned up vs the previous version. As Ubuntu Linux is a great replacement for Windows, OpenOffice is the perfect replacement for Microsoft Office.

It comes complete with a replacement for any of your office-type documents. Whether they be documents, presentations or even spreadsheets. The best part is that they are completely compatible with Windows format files! You can create, edit & share the documents you create with OpenOffice with all of your poor Windows friends easily!

One of the other features available with OpenOffice is the ability to output directly to .pdf format. You can create your document and with one simple click present that as a .pdf file! This is a great feature that any office will love!

Check out more great features at www.openoffice.org and download it today!

(Ubuntu Linux 5.04 comes preinstalled with OpenOffice. To upgrade to beta 2.0 use: apt-get or Synaptic Package Manager to install the needed files!)
